See The New Volkswagen ID.4 Walkaround And First Drive From InsideEVs

If you’ve been following the electric vehicle (EV) market, you’ve heard the buzz about Volkwagen’s new ID.4. With roughly 250 miles of range and just under $40K, the ID.4 is poised to shake-up the EV sector. And not be overlooked is VW’s strategy around charging infrastructure. “Buyers of the 2021 ID.4 will get three years of unlimited charging on Electrify America network at no additional cost, covering more than 470 charging stations and over 2,000 public DC fast chargers nationwide.” That’s big folks. So big you might say Tesla’s market dominance has mostly hinged on its charging network.

Harvard Business Review had a good piece recently arguing just that.

“Firms that dream of being the next Tesla should carefully examine why they are so far behind. It’s not for lack of knowledge about how to build cars; many of the incumbent firms have been doing that for over a hundred years. Instead, they should focus on the critical infrastructure, in this case the charging networks”

It’ll be interesting to see how well the ID.4 does in the U.S. It looks like it’s off to a good start.
