Beautiful Day for the Austin Fermentation Festival 2018

After so much rain over the last few weeks, it was great to see the sun again on Sunday. We spent some time at the Fermentation Festival in the Seaholm District near downtown.

There were also workshops being held throughout the day at the Austin Public Library, which is a world-class facility if you haven’t been. All in all it was a well-attended event with a lively mix of fermented food and drink vendors. The samples were top-notch!

While no single study is perfect, all types of studies support a conclusion that a diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fish and unsaturated fats; limits refined starches, sugar-sweetened beverages, and red and processed meat; and excludes industrial trans fat will reduce rates of diabetes, cardiovascular and other diseases, and total mortality.

Confusion is fueled through the extensive coverage of small studies suggesting that being overweight is desirable but not of superior studies including millions of people suggesting the opposite.

Sneaky McDonalds

It turns out San Francisco has not entirely vanquished the Happy Meal as we know it. Come Dec. 1, you can still buy the Happy Meal. But it doesn’t come with a toy. For that, you’ll have to pay an extra 10 cents.
